Summer 2016 Greetings

Tuesday, July 12th 2016 @ 7:07 PM

Welcome summer solstice!  As you are aware this is my most favorite time of the year.  I am enjoying sitting outside and watching my gardens bloom!  We did some new plantings by the tea house along with the installation of new bird feeders.  In the early morning and at sunset it truly looks like a bird sanctuary! There must be at least a dozen or so different species.  I plan on studying them so I know who is who.  LOL! After much discussion amongst ourselves and some of you, we open for the summer on Thursday’s at 11:00 am for lunch.  I am happy to say that it is working out well and we will continue thru the fall.

Our Mother’s Day tea was lovely and again we filled our reservation book early and unfortunately were unable to handle all of the requests for reservations that came in.  The reason I am bringing this up is that we had a wait list for each seating and were unable to accommodate all due to our limited amount of tables.  We had confirmed all reservations on the Friday prior to Mother’s Day and yet at each of the three seating’s there were one to two tables that did not show or even call.  I understand that life happens and things arise, however I don’t believe that a telephone call could not have been made, either before or even after.  I was more upset for the customers who we had to turn away and for the servers who showed up to make the day special, then I am for just the no shows.  So therefore after much thought and discussion with our customers, we will be instituting a new policy beginning in September, calling for all special events to have a deposit placed when making a reservation.  I don’t really like doing this, it is additional work on our end, and I am just hoping that doing it this way we will not have empty tables.  If a guest(s) cannot make it, and they need to cancel, they are free to call up to 48 hours to receive a full refund.   Please note that I trying to accommodate as many of our customers as possible, due to our limited amount of tables available.

Our High SocieTea House cookbook is doing well.  We have to place an order for the fall.  We are contemplating making a second book, due to requests for additional recipes.  Hopefully that will be in the works soon and completed by next spring.

I am trying to pinpoint a date for the end of September to hold a tea house painting event.  As soon as they can confirm a date I will have the details and cost posted on Facebook and our website.

On October 6th & 13th Chilton Hospital Auxiliary will once again be holding their annual Queen’s Tea.  The proceeds will benefit the Breast Center at the Hospital.  For tickets and additional information please contact the auxiliary office at 973/831-5345.

I was hoping to have a class this summer on how to host a tea in your home for family and friends, with author, Kim Hendrickson. Due to our conflicting schedules we were not able to set a date until the spring for her to show us her secrets to hosting a beautiful & delicious tea.  Kim is the author of several lovely books.  We are fortunate to carry her books and sandwich cutters here at the tea house. I will announce the date and details shortly.

Our Alice in Wonderland celebration during Halloween weekend was so much fun! The staff enjoyed dressing up and next year we will be celebrating with a witches theme.  This will coincide with our local author, Marianne San George, who will be joining us to introduce her book on a Thursday evening in late October. As soon as I firm up a date we will have it posted on Facebook and our website.  The book is a good read and it took Marianne many years to complete.  The tea house atmosphere inspired her in parts of her book. The book will be available at the tea house for those who are in their waning years!  LOL!  There will be no additional charge for these events.

We will also celebrate Halloween with our annual night of a Queen’s Tea and be entertained by our spiritual readers.  This year we are changing it up a bit, having the readers sit with you during your meal. I think everyone will enjoy themselves and it will be a fun night for all.  The date and times for this event will be announced shortly.

This year Christmas Eve and Christmas will fall on a Saturday and Sunday so we are going to change things up a bit this year.  On almost every Saturday in December, in addition to our brunches ($29.95), we will be offering a high tea ($31.95) at 1:00 pm and our candle light tea ($34.50) is being pushed up to 4:00 pm. I am hoping that we can accommodate more of our customers.  All three seating’s will have the Victorian Caroler’s!  We will also hold several brunches ($29.95) with the Caroler’s on Sunday for those who are unable to make the Saturday dates.   We will also have Dominique return to play her harp for us.  All of the dates for these events will be listed on our web site.

This past winter I had a chance encounter with Mr.  & Mrs. Claus and they have agreed to come to the Tea House for a visit on Tuesday, December 6th & Wednesday, December 7th.  The event will run from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm.  We still have to work out the details, but it is safe to say that it will involve cookies and tea and hot cocoa.  We will also have a North Pole Mailbox set up so the children can leave their letters for Santa, if they haven’t been sent out already. Santa has promised to have the letters answered by either himself or Mrs. Claus!  These dates are on our website and we will be taking reservations when we reopen in September. The cost for this event will be $18.00 per child and the same per each adult that attends and seating will be limited. This amount is an all-inclusive event.

Lastly, I want to share with all of you that when we reopen in September 2016, we will be raising the cost of our meals.  As you are aware everything except the breads are made fresh on site and the prices of these ingredients have been slowing rising. The increase will be from $.50 to $1.50, depending on which meal is ordered.  We have struggled the last couple of years to keep our costs down, however no matter how hard we try, we cannot stop the rising costs of dairy, fruit, insurance, taxes, etc. and we did not want to sacrifice quality and to continue serving you the highest quality of food available.

We will be holding additional events for the rest of the year, so please check our website and Facebook for dates and times. Looking forward to seeing you all during the year…..

I was reading on my porch recently and saw this poem and thought how perfect it was for a summer evening - - -

I WANT TO BE magic.”

Wishing you white light & blessings……
